FUTURIS - TV Magazine Introducing EU Research Projects

The European Commission has recently launched a TV magazine on EU research projects on Euronews, entitled FUTURIS.

FUTURIS is widely available to European and International audiences. It is broadcast in seven languages, 20 times a week on Euronews satellite and cable networks (102 countries worldwide – including Japan).

EU research projects (see the 7th EU Research Framework programme for more information) involve several partners from different EU Member States. They are also open to international cooperation, including with Japanese researchers in the public or private sectors.

Tackling allergies and asthma with a Europe-wide approach
Millions of Europeans suffer from allergies and asthmas, because of pollution, new substances, genetic predisposition and – ironically – an overly clean lifestyle. In a European-wide network, researchers are working closely together to improve treatments for these diseases.
ITER: Hopes for clean and abundant energy
The sun has been shining for several billion years and provides the Earth with solar power. Now scientists are hoping to copy the energy source of the sun here on earth, in so-called fusion reactors.
Countering bacterial resistance to antibiotics
Antibiotics are used around the world to fight diseases in both animals and humans, but many bacteria which carry disease have become resistant to antibiotics. Different European research projects are looking into new ways of stopping this resistance.
Researchers playing hard at the World Cup
The leading nations are competing for the World Cup, stirring emotions among billions of football fans around the world. But it is also an opportunity for top researchers to try out new technologies.
Smart cars to reduce road accidents
With around 50,000 people killed annually in car accidents in the European Union, Brussels wants to halve this figure by 2010 with the help of new technology.
