Previous assignments:

1998-2002: Counsellor-ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting), European Commission, Directorate-General External Relations; Brussels, Belgium. Management, development and coordination of the political, economic and cultural pillars of ASEM with EU Member States and ten Asian partners; coordination of Commission's participation in the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) and the South Asian Regional Coordination Council (SAARC).

1997-98: Minister-Counsellor (industrial, commercial affairs), Permanent Representation of Austria to the EU/Brussels. Counsellor of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) of the EU.

1995-1998: Co-Chair (trade) of the OECD - Joint Session of Trade and Environment Experts

1992-97: Deputy Director General, Department for European Integration and Trade Policy, Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, Vienna: co-ordination of integration policy, participation in the Austrian EU-decision making process; trade policy analysis especially with regard to WTO, new trade policy issues and future EU enlargement; WTO-panellist.

1990 to 1992, Counsellor, economic affairs, at the Austrian Permanent Mission to the GATT, Geneva, negotiator (Services, TRIPS, Preshimpment Inspection-PSI, Rules of Origin) during the GATT-Uruguay Round.

Previous assignments include Austrian Deputy Trade Commissioner for Japan (Tokyo) 1985-1989 and for Western Africa (Abidjan, Côte d' Ivoire) 1982-1985, research assistant at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Geneva (1981).
